How to get rid of things and not feel bad
It’s almost the end of January, and if we’ve been naughty or nice most of us have received a gift from Father Christmas. How exciting! The reshuffling begins with stuffed cupboards and wardrobes overflowing with hardly used or acknowledged items and clothing. Another job that doesn’t exude a lot of satisfaction is draining and testing us emotionally and mentally.
Why?
Because we must make room for another item that doesn’t excite us very much, and we also don’t want another thing crammed at the back of the cupboard and forgotten for eternity. Or do we?
Most of us feel guilty about letting things go that might be expensive items, or we have either paid lots of money for them, or there is an emotional attachment to them.
However, does it make sense to value items and things and compromise energy flow? The answer is debatable. It all depends on your values and beliefs.
If you believe that the energy that created those items in the first place can recreate again, you might feel okay with letting them go.
Holding onto items and things obstructs the energy flow leading to more stagnant energy. When we hold onto something, we send a message into the Universe reinforcing lack.
New Year calls for new beginnings. Take stock of all the things you have. If you can’t do it physically, try experimenting mentally first.
I know that you probably think that you have too many things and it’s not doable. Start with the items that are in front of your eyes first.
Touch every item and notice how you feel. Do you feel a connection to the object? Does the thing make you feel happy when looking at it? Does the item evoke any tingles or goosebumps within you? If the answer is “No” to any of these questions, you have three options:
Sell the item.
Please give it to charity.
Throw it away.
Now is the time to notice your energy again. Go back to the options above and see which option feels better for you on a scale of 1-10.
Relax.
You don’t have to decide right now.
Think about how happy someone else might feel if you would sell the item or give it away. The whole energy of the item would transform as well as your energy.
“Only by giving can you receive more than you already have.” Jim Rohn
When you look at an item, notice if you feel love or appreciation for that item. If none of these feelings happen within you, then the only part of you that holds onto this item is your Ego.
The Ego likes possessions and lots of them because this is where its identity stems.
Your Soul is happy to let go of things and not feel guilty.
Why?
It knows that we live in an abundant Universe.
But don’t just let it go; say thank you to the item for serving you (it has a Soul and a Spirit too).
If you find letting go of items a painful chore when your time comes to leave the physical world for good, the people left behind you will also find it hard to let go of your possessions. The more we practice letting go, the more we release holding onto things.
Most of us have bought so many items unconsciously, and I am no exception. So, next time when you purchase something, take a breath, slow down and ask yourself the following questions:
Do I need it?
Do I love it?
Do I want it?
Do I like it?
Do I buy it because it’s in a sale?
Do I buy it with my savings or my credit card?
The fewer things you buy, the fewer things you will have to let go of.
